Ghostface - Notice Reef answered your 2nd question, not the first. Their allowance state with MAF has little to do with their availability.

They have been imported and offered for sale in NZ in the past. They were quite expesnive though, over $40.00ea.

yep get rid off them once and youll never get them again.

i dont think anyone here would seriously advocate natural predation as a permanently sustainable way of eliminating them.

lets say you get a copperband and it eats them all but then doesnt want to eat any prepared food. what happens??

the fish dies of starvation and your hidden aipstasia's come back again.

same problem with the nudibranches that eat them, they eat the ones they can find but then run out off food and die.

joes juice kills them and doesnt harm the tank if used wisely, dont try to be different just for the sake of being different, if a product works and works well and is reccomended by everyone why not use it??????

i cant be bothered tearing my tank apart every month to get at them. i am trying to keep the tank healthy with as little intervention / labour as possible. [i want my weekends back] if there is an animal that will take care of this particular problem for me, i would rather take that route than periodically shell out for more potions from LFS. people keep copperbands successfully and swear by them, though my tank is a little too small for one i think. too bad the Ministry of Aversion to Fishkeeping have blocked most things that would be useful here.....

Actually the "Draino" brand is not the best. They use other chemicals as well. I'll find the container that i use and post the actual brand. I get it from "Fresh Choice" supermarket (Might be just a Christchurch supermarket). Most supermarkets should stock some sort of granule (not liquid) drain unblocker.

Just make sure somewhere of the container it says 100% sodium hydroxide.

100% kill success. It's permanent.

I know you can get sodium hydroxide granules from Clarkes Chemicals (Onikawa), they are based in Napier but they are in all yellow pages under chemical suppliers. Its not very expensive, $10 for about a beer cans worth of granules. Which is heaps. Dont put it on your tongue - :o it creates a visible hole where the burn is. - Practicle lessons from 6th form chem :D
