Ira
Keeping it clean doesn't seem to make a difference to the amount of skimmate and usually I get less than that. I've tried closing the air valve off heaps again to about 2 o'clock, didn't seem to make a difference last time, but we'll see.
reef
That is serious skimmate, What are you feeding.
Ira
A pinch of flake, some ground up shrimp and whitebait mix, cyclopeeze, whole whitebait. The whole whitebait I feed the anemone a small chunk every day or two, the other ones are fed either the flake, mix or cyclopeeze every other day or so. reef
Might have to ease up on feeding and stop cyclopeeze as to much of it will pollute your tank.
Ira
I don't think the skimmer putting out a pathetic amount is caused by overfeeding. Like I said, that's 2 weeks worth. That's...about 1 cup or less of skimmate. The tank is only getting something like 1/4 tsp of cyclopeeze a week.
reef
i didnt think it was a pathetic amount, just with that amount overflowing means you are feeding way to much. no need to overfeed the fish . but also think that the cyclopeeze is also causing the overflowing as it is taking it out. Ira
The foam has overflowed like that since the day I got it. I've been feeding the tank cyclopeeze for maybe 3 weeks. I either have the collection cup all the way up and the foam doesn't escape but I don't get any skimmate or I have it lower and a bit of foam comes out but I do get some skimmate. Anyway, we'll see what adjusting the air valve does and then I'll try adjusting the collection cup again.

raeh1
My weir pro 2014. Fills about 3/4 of the collection cup each week. So I now what steve means for value for money. (Although it could be modified to power it up even more) Brianemone put a more powerful powerhead on his.
jetskisteve
I fitted the venturi directly to the pump outlet with no elbow, actually does a great job, course i could get 11 more or buy a deltec
reef
Ira, You should try and feed less, for the skimmer to do that means that there is too much waste in your tank. the air valve should be set at 2 oclock and adjust the height of the cup to suit. Got any photos of your tank so we can see if there is too many organics in your tank. what is your po4 , nitrate reading?
Ira
I'll have to take a pic tomorrow. The most recent one I have is over a month old. Haven't tested the nitrates in about 2 weeks, but it was around 10 and I don't have a phosphate test kit.
reef
Nice tank, I would reduce feeding and stop cyclopeeze for a month and see what the skimmer does.
Ira
I'm not sure how much cutting back I can do. Other than feeding the anemone every other day I only feed about a pinch every other day for the fish, polyps etc. And I can't cut back on feeding the anemone, if I do it'll starve to death. I'm still hoping I'll manage to save it. But we'll see what I can do.
reef
Here are pics of the BK300. Hard to get a shot inside the cup as it is under a tank. As you can see it is taking lots of crap out, 1 weeks worth. This is the difference between mediocre skimmers like via aua, weipro. Can’t really see how these skimmers are good value when they hardly take anything out, Only benefits of these skimmer is that you might get the feel good factor because your did not spend much money by that is about it. Any skimmer will skim something but cheap skimmers will take a very long time to remove anything so organics will build up so they will never catch up and the waste will keep building. If budget is a problem then it is best to get an air stone skimmer as they will take out far more and at least they will be doing something. Brianemone
has anyone seen the tunze skimmers in action? they seem to be priced resonably but i cant really find how they work (Needle wheel, venturi??)
reef
Had tried the earlier models which seemed ok for money spent, They dont skim as hard and are more passive so you dont get the thick skimmate. They work on venturi and do pull a lot of air in which is good. The New tunze skimmers will be out soon so will test to see how good they are. they are cheap and would be a middle range skimmer performance like aquamedic, schuran. Pies
And I can't cut back on feeding the anemone, if I do it'll starve to death. Why will it starve? I've never fed any of mine. I even have a small Anemone thats bleeched, been sitting in its hole for about 9 months, still going. It does look like you getting a lot of DOC out of the skimmer, which can only be excessive feeding? Pie

Feelers
Hey jet ski is there supposed to be an elbow from the pump into the weipro? Im just using a u peice of bendy tube.
Ira
Ok, it's been over a week and the skimmer has collected...Somewhere in the range of 50 milliliters, only about an inch in the collection cup, which the section it collects in is a triangle so it's not much. Today I guess I'll tear it apart and give it and the pump a clean.
