WCMM Fry

Last night I was putting some Dapnia in the breeding tanks I had tried (and failed, I thought) to breed my WCMM's in and I noticed some tiny highlighter blue things swimming around, which after a moment of confusion (the WCMM's were last in there two weeks ago!) I recognised to be WCMM fry. They're by far the tiniest fry I've ever seen (Never bred egg scatterers before) Anyways here's a crappy photo of one of them:

Really hard to get a good pic of them, I'll try again tonight.

Yeap, they're too small to even eat baby brine shrimp or microworms at this stage. Thing is Caryl, there is a light on their tank :o I've noticed some of them are a lot more reflective than others, probably they're the older ones. Here're some more pics that are a bit better (You can see how tiny they are compared to the Daphnia in the right pic):

These are the tanks they're in, a divided 2ft (Adults tank is on the left there)

I've got the heaters set to 20c, the tanks sometimes get up to 24 in the day though :-?

kiwibird - the major difference between males and females is the belly. Males have flat bellies and females rounded. Later on you can make out the males by the white flashes on fins when "dancing" but I'm not sure how old they are. The belly is usually a good indicator though.

Alan - completely agree about snails. Ramshorns in particular (yup, invested in ramshorn stock last week!). They're awesome at cleaning the tanks up without harming fry.

Daphnia eat infusorians, which is what you should be aiming for to feed the baby WCMM.

The sole purpose in a daphnia's life is to eat infusorians till they are fed to fish big enough to eat the daphnia.

Snails encourage infusorians and also cleans up uneaten food.
