Radium can do 400W Radium 20k bulbs for $125 + gst i think

and 1000W Radium 20k bulbs for $250 + gst

no 1000W 14kers that he knows of....

.

Mmmm

2 * 1000W (=2000W) @ $250 = $500

5 * 400W (=2000W) @ $125 = $625.

I don't actually want my corals to grow that fast, my tank is already big enough.

My idea of two 1000W bulbs migrating along the tank as the day progresses is sounding more attractive all the time.

Just woked it out that based on my equipment and duty cycles I should average a consumption about 1213W. This comes to 29.11 Units per day, for a total cost of $4.67 +GST.

I am now rather glad I did not stay with my first plan of a tank upstairs and the sump downstairs. The power consumption of the main circulation pump never entered into my change of plan to having everything downstairs but it probably would have if I had thought about it.

You may be correct. I could actually test that, since all the heaters are running off a central temperature control. If I were to plug a timer into the output used by the heaters I could set it to 00:00 then come back 24 hours later and see what time it was reading, which would be the number of hours the heaters had been on.

Might do that tonight.

So far the tank is consuming about $4.75 power per average winter day but over a period of 1.5 days, when we had a very cold southerly front come thru, it climbed to just over $6 per day. Including this spike, the everage is $5.22.

In the 24 hour period to 7:25 this morning the heaters had only been on for 8.5 hours but must have been on for a lot longer during that cold spell.

All this data is going to make an intersting graph one day.

why is it that the same stuff not happen in the fresh water tanks?

The same stuff does happen to us freshies, My power bill is up from $80 a month to almost $200 a month with running 1555W of heaters and 280W of lights plus filters etc.

SWMBO is not happy, and keeps asking when the fish are going to breed and start paying for their own keep.

Sounds like I need to change over to saltwater or get a warmer house.
