Caryl
How big is the tank and how heavily is it stocked? I have left my fish for that amount of time without feeding with no problems at all. If the tank is well matured and the fish are fed a few live foods before you go, they should be able to find enough algae to graze on until your return. I wouldn't do this if the tank is well stocked mind you. I have a 4ft with about 25 fish in it, the largest being 6cm and most of the others only 3cm. Is there no-one you can ask to feed them for you? If you made up 2 portions of food and asked them to add one in 3 days and the other in another 3 days all would be good. As far as I know there is nothing wrong with the autofeeders but I was thinking $150 is a lot of money for a short space of time.

Ira
You could try a couple of those feeding blocks. I think for my fish they'd probably be ok for 9 days, but I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving them for that long. Some people seem really against those blocks, I'm not sure why though. Goldie
I had an automatic feeder (not sure of the brand) it stuck to the top of the tank. Well it got unstuck and fell into the water, what a mess!!!!!!!!! Luckily I was just testing it out and not on holiday. It got thrown and I have looked warily at them ever since. john1
Hi As goldie said, hers fell in. What a travesty. Fill it up, go away and it falls into the water. Goodbye to all fish. There is a place for automatic fishfeeders. BUT, it must be of high quality, and if possible with battery-backup. So unless you are prepared to part with lots of money, because you usually get what you pay for, stick with a neighbour. John
Warren
I have Eheim feeders and fertiliser dosing systems. Both are very good and don't munch batteries too fast. Have never had trouble with them. In fact, I've never have trouble with anything with the Eheim label. Both are programmable for 4 x single or double dose per day. One unit holds enough food for a well stocked 4' tank for about 2 weeks. The fertiliser tank holds enough for about 2 weeks on my 8' tank with 8 doses a day.
