Celcuis
HI I have noticed 1 or 2 little black bugs on the sand part of my substrate but now THEIR SEEMS TO AROUND 500 OR MORE. How do I get rid of them?
alanmin4304
I can't tell from the picture what they are other than black dots. A larger picture of the offending article would help. livingart

Ira
Are they little black bugs or snails? I'd have called them snails, but you say bugs so I'm a bit unsure.
alanmin4304
They look like leeches. Can't say I have seen them before or know anything about them. Sorry.
Celcuis
They look like little beetles anyway I starved my tank for 2 days now and they seem to be gone. The probbly came attached to some plants that I brought. thanks

Celcuis
Nah living there none of those tbh I think they might be beneficial as they probbly live of ditritus and uneaten food and also borrow into the substrate
alexyay
A video of their movement might help, but I would assume they are Ostracods and are just free fish food livingart and Celcuis
Celcuis
Yup they are Ostracods although I've never seen my fish eat them... They just lazily swim around all day
alexyay
I figure my fish either eat them or out-compete them - if I remove the fish from a tank, I usually start seeing zooplankton (?) like ostracods, copepods, mites, stylaria/other annelids and flatworms some time after (assuming I keep feeding the tank or let plants/etc decompose)
