Caryl
My son did the following (although he was primary level).Judges like ideas that take some time to produce results so one year we set up 3 identical tanks (had a 3ft divided into 3 so handy). We put 3 identically sized plants in each, 1 baby tears, 1 sprite and 1 Java fern. The centre tank was the control with nothing added. Left side used aquatic fertiliser tablets and the other side used liquid fertiliser. The question was "Which Fertiliser Works Best?" No fish but it does use aquariums. He measured the plants once a week over a 3 month period then produced a graph of the results. gligor, livingart and Silverdollarboy2

Rob
A variation of the plant growing experiment I've seen is setting up identical plants but under different fluorescent lights (warm white, cool daylight, plant grow, etc) to see how much of a difference the different lighting made. Best to choose a plant that normally grows quite quickly, so that you can get measurable results in the time available). Caryl
Silverdollarboy2
Thanks for the ideas, I have started getting supplies. Caryl, are there any brands of fertiliser you would recommend? Thanks
Caryl
Sorry, no. I never use fertilisers myself. When my son did it I think he used Baby Bio as a liquid one and I can't remember the other. I might get up to the roof space later and check as I think the original project might be stored up there (the child will be 34 next Saturday)
Silverdollarboy2
Thanks, I might use Seachem Flourish or Nutrafin Plant Gro (Whichever is best to use) as a liquid and JBL The 7 Balls as tabletsSeachem Flourish http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/detail/view/seachem-flourish-250ml/m/1007/Nutrafin Plant Gro http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/detail/view/nutrafin-plant-gro-120ml/m/1007/JBL The 7 Balls http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/detail/view/jbl-the-7-13-balls/m/1007/
