Josh1984
This is for chiclid measurement will be 700 hight 800 deep 2.5 long
kinnadian
Will the top be braced?
Silverdollarboy2
http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?page_id=1529 It depends on what safety factor you are ok with. 10mm glass would give you a safety factor of around 1.
livingart
take height down to 60cm and euro brace top and inside bottom and 10mm will do.
Godly3vil
Personally I'd want at least 12mm for even 600mm high.
Josh1984
Been changed to 600 high 800 deep 2500 long
Josh1984
I'm thinking 10mm ?
Adrienne
You'll still need decent bracing. The top bracing on my 1500L x 600H x 500D is nearly 25mm - thats both ends and across the middle. Sides are 10mm as is base and the base is braced also.
Josh1984
Was thinking 50mm wide 10mm along bottom and like 4 200mm across the top with 200 by 50 mm under neaf that?
Josh1984
3 lids
alanmin4304
The thickness calculator is based on euro bracing or a steel frame and I would not go with 10mm even at 600 high at that length.
David R
http://www.theaquatools.com/building-your-aquarium 250x80x60 10mm glass gives a safety factor of 2.3, which isn't bad but not great either. 12mm would be over 3 which is much better. If it were me I'd go 650 total height and 12mm glass, water level somewhere around 620-630, safety factor closer to 3. Shouldn't be too big a difference in price based on my past experiences, depending on where you source glass.
ryanjury
For that length I would go in 12mm glass and you could go to say 650mm deep as David has suggested, it would be far safer.
Adrienne
Where do you live? If its in one of the quake zones you definitely want thicker and stronger.
Josh1984
I am in kapiti it sounds like 12mm is the way to go. So plan changed:)
David R
Where do you live? If its in one of the quake zones you definitely want thicker and stronger. Good point. Personally I'd still be happy with 12mm and no higher than 650mm, but you wouldn't want to skimp on the bracing! And make sure the stand is dead level, diagonally braced and very rigid... chris b
Iv got a 2450x700x700 in 10mm glass been running for 2 or 3 years it doesn't rate very well on the safety calculator but hasn't broken yet touch wood. I brought it from a guy in wellington if i was to build it myself i would have used 12mm glass just for piece of mind. I built my stand out of 50mm box section and is very solid. if you brace the tank well and make the stand very tough and level it is do able.
