camtang
My Arowana is around 4 or 5 inchs, and is in a 3 foot tank. basicly by it self. It is eating live, prepared, frozen and prawns happily. Very soon my large tank will be empty except for plecs and clown loach. What is a good size to put the Aro into it? Do I need to set up a larger growout (4 foot maybe) before I put it into the big tank or will it be ok going in there in a monthish? Thanks
livingart
Personally I would add it when just plecs and loaches to avoid any possible stunting. Give some floating weed for cover and to make it feel safer
camtang
Thanks, will do so. I have no other big fish to go in as I am still growing out the clown knife and fire eel.And have not made a decision on what else is going in just yet. David R
If it's a good eater I see no reason not to add it to the big tank at 5-6", especially if there aren't any other large fish to out-compete it for food. You'll certainly see better growth with it in the big tank.

camtang
Thanking all for the help. I will move it to the bigger tank once it has no cichlids in it.
camtang
After saying it was such a good eater and a good fish, it has decided to pack a sad and sulk in a corner at the bottom of the tank.Is this normal?
David R
Yep. What sort of arowana? Keep the lights off and give it time.
camtang
Silver, there is no lights over the tank.I am dismantling my current fish room this weeked so when it is moved I will cover it with a towel or some duck weed to block out some light. David R
Duckweed, maybe, towel nah. If you cover the tank it will get used to the tank being covered and freak out when you uncover it. Patience is the key, try to spend some time in front of the tank but without too much movement, it will settle in soon enough. Are you planning on adding any other fish soon? Perhaps some dithers/snacks would help...
camtang
I was gunna throw some guppies in as feeders last night, but I thought that may counter the work with it eating pellets and stuff. It is in with some dwarf plecs for now, but no open water swimmers. I may look into a small group of something, any suggestions? I was avoid the towel, but will add some floaters to the tank. When it moves it will be in a move active room compared to poked away in the spare room so I hope that helps it.
David R
I don't think a one-off feeding of live food will instantly un-train it from eating pellets, but then again it may just be better to give it some time. Small fish alone in a big space is quite likely to be a bit nervous for a while.
camtang
It is still in the grow out tanks. Will probably be in it for another month. I will put the guppies in tomorrow when I do my water changes.
camtang
I put it into my 200L plants tank and threw in the guppies. 2 hours later, 6 less guppies and it is behaving "normally" again.
