Currently I am doing 2 water changes a week of about 15% on a 54L tank. When I pour the new water into the tank (from a bucket), it is disturbing the substrate (small stones). Dr A Posted September 25, 2013 Report Share Posted September 25, 2013 Yeah or poor from a lower depth. It's probably not the end of the world if you do disturb the substrate though is it? Maybe not the whole thing but if the top cm or so gets ruffled around I cant see it doing much harm. Do you have anything below the gravel (dirt etc)? Can ruin your aquascape though I suppose. Ghaz Posted September 25, 2013 Report Share Posted September 25, 2013 i use a 1" thick A4 size piece of foam(aquarium safe of course), it floats so is always on top of the water and easy to remove after filling up the tanks. also use it as a cheap divider for fighters/fry .
