poor oscars :(

Perhaps a NZ fish rescue group could be set up if one doesn't already exist? Members from around the country could volunteer to collect and keep or ship fish from unsuitable homes. Something needs to be done, why not start here?

It is very easy to sit and judge. Clearly the person selling the fish knows they need help. Being critical to some one on an auction is not going to help the situation - an explanation as to how to clean the fish tank or a link to how to do it may have been more useful than what was posted by those criticising.

People who have not had fish before have no idea how to look after tanks. Chances are that if the tank was to be cleaned the fish would be taken out, the tank scrubbed out, refilled with nothing added and the fish would be killed any way due to a new cycle and ammonia poisoning.

On a side note - Disgustipated I do find your remarks offensive. Not necessary, please think before you post.

:iag:

The ad clearly says the tank came with the house so it's the previous owners who are to blame. They're doing the right thing trying to find the fish a home that does know what they're doing. Someone who doesn't know anything about fish wouldn't have a clue how big oscars get or how to properly and safely clean a tank.

Instead of judging and telling the seller how terrible he is maybe we could educate him kindly and inform him that most fish stores will take surrenders so he has the option of re-homing the fish that way and then can sell the tank in his own time?

You won't get anywhere with people by shutting them down - chances are he may now not relist who knows what will become of the fish.

The comments left on the auction were not helpful!! I have left a polite message for the seller on another of her auctions suggesting she contact her local pet shop that sells fish & offer to surrender them. :f77:

Nice one  Looks like they could end up getting sorted.

The poor woman was quite distressed by the comments left, & removed the auction as a result! :(

She has done her best to try & look after them. It would be helpfull if someone in the Palmerston North vicinity could offer to help, or take the fish to a more suitable home!!

Anyone.......????? :dno:
