When he's swimming around his fin is up, but when he is on the bottom down it goes? Is there any treatment for external parasites?

Hi all We have had our tank (130ltr) for a year now and after the first initial loss's everything seemed to be ok. We have a BN, two bolivian rams, 3 neon tetras and 3 harlequin rasboras. My question is about one of my rams. He was always the shy, bullied one of the pair, but was happy swimming around and doing his thing. Over the last couple of days he has been sitting on the bottom alot and most of the time his back fin is flat, not up like it used to be. He does seem to be gulping a bit more than the other one, but is still alive, eating and moving around (mainly on the bottom). He does get chased by his friend and the BN at feeding time, so I'm not sure if he's just scared and gotten battered around by BN or his mate or if he's sick. Any ideas??

Also don't forget to air you house thoroughly afterwards.................this will help get rid of the smell

RIP lil fish We lost one two yesterday Was a happy little chap, swimming around as normal, eating and not be picked on and yesterday morning.....dead. All our others are fine. It's a frustrating being a fish owner sometimes :facepalm:

That's just sad &c:ry I hope they get a good home soon!!

Have you thought about getting another dog? I know one is usually enough to handle, but he's probably very lonely. Perhaps having a friend may help?. Can you perhaps advertise for someone to take him out for walks....I would image a "dog loving" teenager would do him the world of good especially if you can't all the time. Our dog adores our teenager, they have this amazing bond. I swear she even understands his "teenage vocabulary" :slfg: Good luck and hugs and kisses to your "pal"

Hey Binu How did you do your "black out"?? We have green cloudy water and trying desperately to get rid of it!

He's gorgeous :thup: Looks alot like my Elton....he's the only survivor too. I know they are supposed to be in "pairs" but like your's he's quite happy with the others. Although my ram chases him sometimes.... Have you ever seen a grown woman growl a fish before :slfg:

Hi Dana Ours were only months old I have one left now.....he could be my last gourami. They are beautiful fish and would love to get more one day

Thanks for that F15hguy Took our water down to be tested yesterday..everything is fine. We have 11 fish in the tank at the moment. Our tank is up against a wall with a window beside it, the tank is not directly in the sun, but probably gets quite a bit of light. We are now keeping the curtains closed at the moment to see if that makes a differece. Our tank lights are on about 8 hours a day. We purchased some all in one treatment from the petshop and have used a dose, which hasn't made any difference. We were told to just keep dosing it, it won't hurt the fish, but we're not sure if we should. Will this harm the fish?

Thanks Adrienne We have a bubble wall in the tank, so hope that's enough oxygen for them. Yes our gourami died from just being sick We test the pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate every two days, all levels seem to be fine. We will take a sample down to our local petshop though and get it tested there. Appreciate all the advice everyone

We've done quite a few water changes lately probably 30% changes, but are worried that if we do too many it will stuff up the cycle. Will this happen? We are really stumped at the moment. Does anyone know what actually causes Algae Blooms? We have also lost 4 fish lately, 1 x dwarf gourami and 4 harlequins? All the other seem fine. Does this bloom hurt the fish, or did our harlequins have something sinister going on?

Hi guys Our tank is really cloudy at the moment. We've did a water change and added some algae fix, it made no difference. Today we cleaned out the filter, the wool filter was dirty, so that has been cleaned (in tank water of course) and it still appears cloudy. Can anyone tell me why this happens? How do we stop it? :dunno: (Sorry for asked for advice all the time, but you guys are the experts and we are the beginners)

I love my Gourami's Bik..... once we had cycled our tank and added some neon's (who by the way would probably survive a nuclear bomb lol) our first purchase were two pearl gourami's...they were just gorgeous, then came the dwarf's. All was well really until we added the sepae tetra's...they terrorised all the fish and we lost gourami after gourami &c:ry I would love to get some mother-of-pearl gourami's one day....... so will see how we go Thanks everyone for all your advice

I'm starting to realise that with dwarf's - sadly this is not the only one we've lost Seems we don't have much luck with gourami's at all, pearl's and dwarf's don't last for us *sigh* I guess our ram's will just have to do

Well this morning he is still with us.....just He seems to be a fighter, but I don't hold out much hope that he will be around when I get home tonight. &c:ry
