disgustipated
and if you really want them to bloom, sort out a CO2 system
SamH
and if you really want them to bloom, sort out a CO2 system I agree with disgustipated. I'd be looking at CO2 before substrates.
WillskE
co2 we talking about the gas tanks not diy ones eh?
SamH
Yes pressurised CO2. That's what really makes a high tech tank high tech.
WillskE
is there a post here some where that illustrates the items i need to acquire for a co2 setup?
SamH
Not yet so just go off this one in the meantime. http://www.plantedtank.net/articles/Pressurized-CO2/19/ Basically you need a cylinder, regulator with solenoid and needle valve and a diffuser. Anything else is extra, check valve, bubble counter, etc.

Godly3vil
where would be a place to get all those items? trademe/HFF? Everything but the cylinder you can get from fishstreet.com, hff sells cylinders.
SamH
:iag: Fishstreet is best, even though half the price is shipping it's STILL much cheaper

camtang
I use the same stuff, but I have found that to much causes issues. ( well thats what I think has happened) I put half a bag in with a small bag of peat into a 40-50l tank and have been having great plant growth but lots of algae issues. ( again I think this is whats doing it) So just be carful of how much you use of it
