Larger fish for a 4ft aquarium

Currently in my 4ft tank I have platies, guppies, fighters and golden bristlenose. I'm looking at keeping the BN and a few of the lower tech plants (java ferns) but need something a bit more high impact for the tank. The tank measures 1200mm x 400mm x 400mm, what are some larger fish I could put in there?

Thanks!

That should do the job, especially with doing a few more water changes than the usual.

I do 2-3 30% water changes on my discus tank weekly, I could probably get away with less but since my tanks still just maturing I like to be extra vigilant. With adult discus you could easily get away with only changing 50% weekly especially since the tank has been set up for quite awhile?

Is it planted? If it is I would be tempted to get some juvies and grow them on myself as the plants will help keep nitrates down which affect growth and also you would have a decent chance of getting a pair once they reach maturity.

Tank is too short for CLs IMO, they really need 6'+ length to thrive, would probably be ok up to ~4-5" if there is a strong flow, but they are active fish with the potential to grow to a foot in length, they really do need space to swim.

As for discus, I'd be reluctant to keep a fish that grows to 20cm tall in a 40cm deep tank, by the time you add enough substrate for plants and a gap at the top you're probably not going to have much more than 30cm height.

I think the idea of some larger schooling fish like congos, scissortails, or those red line torpedo barbs would look good in a planted tank that size.
