Rainwater Collection

My husband rigged up a fish bin with a hose out of the bottom and when it rains he hops up on the roof (low) and unhooks the gutter so it pours into the fish bin and down the hose. At the other end are 2 rain barrels that have a hose that goes between them and siphons the water so they are always at equal volume. There is a hose off that with an irrigation tap on and they are raised about 60cm off the ground so the water pours out from the tap.

We use it to water the garden and for the soft water liking fish.

Except when there is none left, which is now :D

We went to those lengths so we could avoid interupting the gutter (rental house) or buying an expensive rain water diverter.

Four posts, a bit of string, a tarp from the warehouse and a bin.

Tie two corners of the tarp up high to the posts (or use the washing line) and the other two low and place the bin in the middle on the low end. Big area = heaps of water. No rain => store tarp in bin and put in garage.

I'm sure you can use some #8 wire as well to make it 100% kiwi-style :rotf:
