spoon
recently i bought this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ralink-3052-Wir ... 927wt_1111 with the aim of connecting my tv and blue ray player to it, as some sort of wireless bridge so it would basically pick up the wifi signal from my pc's modem and convert it to a wired lan signal as well as outputting wifi again . i think the term is ap client im unsure about how to configure it so far i have plugged it in to my pc's internet port opened the browser and typed 192.168.16.1 to bring up the menu then go to ap client then entered my ssid ( thinking its the name of my network, same name as whats on my cell phone wireless menu) and the password but its not connecting when i hit apply and then go plug my other modem back in and plug this into the tv , the tv recognises the modem but cant connect to the internet any one got any ideas? Sheepsnana
Just to confirm... You have a modem-router, and you bought a router. You plan on connecting the router to the modem wirelessly. You have entered the SSID of the modem into the router, but it isn't connecting. Why are you not just connecting your devices to your original modem-router? Sheepsnana
the tv recognises the modem but cant connect to the internet It may be connected to the LAN but not the internet. Are any other devices on the LAN having the same issue?
blueether
some routers do this easy (if it will run dd-wrt firmware it is easy), some you will need to fint the wifi bridge settings ant turn this on, some you can turn wifi bridging on via telnet/ssh, other routers will just not play nice at all (I had a Thompson that would randomly decide to work well or drop 30-50% of packets) Good luck
Phantom
So you want to run it like this picture from that auction? (Except the modem for internet and wireless router at the top is 1 device not 2?) On that device, you won't be able to have it repeat the wireless signal and also act as a bridge (a bridge is what the picture shows). You need to look in the manual and follow the instructions for setting it up as a bridge, not an AP client.
spoon
yeah thats pretty much what to do extra wireless signal would be a bonus but not necessary will buy a better router at some point. i would just run cables but that would have to be made tidy with proper wall ports which could get expensive so this was my next option . ill give that a crack 2moro the instructions call it ethernet convertor mode if that fails its most likely a wet ware issue and i may have to find a local network expert that like beer :slfg:
GrahamC
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vonets-VAP11G-W ... B0050AI804 I bought one of these which arrived yesterday .. hoping to try it out soon.
GrahamC
My cheap Vonets wifi bridge works in so much as I can connect a VOIP phone with it to the network, and a PC, but not my ATA Monitoring the connections to the wifi hotspot, I can see it connect, drop, connect, drop etc.
Phantom
I've always gone with DD-WRT capable routers for wireless bridges. Currently my flavour of the month is the D-Link DIR-615.
