Place the bags in upside down so the fish don't get caught in the corners and use oxygen not air. Send overnight. Don't feed for 48 hours before packing. Adrienne Posted July 22, 2012 Report Share Posted July 22, 2012 I have smaller polyboxes (chucked the big ones I had on the T&E yesterday as no one wanted them) and heatpacks which you can have as long as you dont want too many. I am in Epsom, very very close to the Southern Motorway, making it easy to collect, so if you are interested let me know. I am very certain that if you let the fish shops know that you are travelling they will bag them so they can last the distance. My main suggestion would be that you go look and decide what you want, then go back and purchase them. The fish will go 24 - 30 hours in the bags but less is better. ichthus Posted July 22, 2012 Report Share Posted July 22, 2012 Having once worked in a larger Auckland pet store - I would say that some won't really know how to pack them for a long journey (don't have heat packs, don't add anything to the water and don't have oxygen on hand). Make sure they pack the fish lightly and don't put too many in each bag. Bag should have 1/4 water to 3/4 air, or oxygen preferably. You could just put the bags in a cardboard box then pack scrunched up newspaper around them. Make sure the bags stay upright so they aren't falling over or rolling about. The fish will go 24 - 30 hours in the bags but less is better. oh awesome, i plan on going to hollywood fish farms to see whats on offer and i plan on getting a bunch or malawi (hopefully some giraffes) small fish though dont want anything bigger then like 5cm, and at the same time ive been looking on trademe which is only making the decision even harder lol i appreciate the offer with the polyboxes and heatpack :thup: ill get back to you as soon as i have sorted out exactly when im coming up etc, oh and the trip will only be like 6hours Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
