camtang
wow, now your asking the tough questions haha. not sure of the name but the stuff that kind of carpets rocks for cichlids too graze on. i dont know if that helps. i was looking through this forum last night and found a couple of pics that people had done so if my very vague description didnt help ill try find it again and see if it has a name or at least try and add a photo of it
Caryl
Strong light and no plants for it to compete with. I had no trouble growing it in my African tank and I didn't actually want it
F15hguy
you can put a couple of rocks in aquarium water in icecream containers and leave them in the sun for a few days. my parva loves me for it
camtang
i have noticed very little grow on rocks in my cichlid tank if any. i get the odd spot on the glass but nothing on rocks. so its as simple as tank water in a container with rocks and direct sunlight? F15hguy
i use tank water as it normally has some nitrates in it, you can use tap water but it takes longer. when I was breeding I just put them on a ledge at the top of my infusoria/mosquite larvae culture
camtang
so just to clarify this a little. if im using just sun and tank water to grow algae outside. does that mean the algae that grows in my outdoor pond that only has water in it, will be safe to use in a fish tank? F15hguy
I would assume so, unless you live in an area with spraying going on or heavy pollution
livingart
best way to grow it is to not to want to grow it :slfg:

Angus
Gotta admit this made me chuckle. Guess all i've got to do now is pretend to want to grow algae, and it'll go away
