is this any good for africans?

My understanding is also that length is the most important with africans.

The footprint (lenght and width) is certainly far more important than height. Length is the mose important factor but width is also important, especially when dealing with mbuna - but you keep haps and peacocks right? I can't see a problem with this tank size but I would definitely check it out before bidding. Good luck!

So what is the idea tank dems for adult frontosa and red empress?

My current tank is 1500 x 75 x75.

Im pretty sure it is wide enough. But probably not longer enough?

My fronts are still small for now. But another year it will reach semi adult age.

Will this tank too small for 12 of them?

Cheers

Your tank is far more suited than this one. Remember this is really 2 x 1200 unless you can remove the middle divider. Even if you could it's still around 300L less than your tank.

Most people recommend a 6ft min for frontosa however you have the extra width that they can play in, you should be fine for a few more years with them in that sized tank, you would also be wise to thin out the males as they mature (various methods of selecting the males to keep around if you google/search the forums).
