RoninBoxers
Greetings All! Back with another question  I've decided my tank needs moonlighting (more for my fun than the fish!) I've looked at LED moonlights and Cold cathode. I'm considering CC because it has less of a tendancy to spotlight. NEway, my question is this. Would the light from a 12" cathode diffuse sufficiently through a 30" tank? I don't really want to shell out on 2 Basically I just don't want a harsh difference between the dark and light areas in the tank when its on. Don't mind dark corners, fish would probably like that. Thanks! Helene
Ira
Yeah, the light from one should be heaps. Possibly even too much, I tried just a little 8 watt PC light as a moonlight on my cichlid tank once, even with a cloth wrapped around it, it was too much light and kept the fish up. DiverJohn
I had a similar idea a while ago and looked in to the CC tubes but they struck me a too expensive at the time. Any hoo your post prompted me to do another search... Came across these... http://www.coolcases.co.nz/ click on the "Lights" section - small blue neons for $15, CC tubes $20. And another http://www.stylespc.co.nz/xcart/customer/product.php?productid=3079&cat=125&page=1 CCBlue Tube $15. DiverJohn
Never got this working.... the idea was to use a 12 volt halogen transformer (about $10 from hardware strore)
misnoma
I have a midnight blue cold cathode for my marine tank, cost me $16 including inverter etc, then a $30 12V power supply from jaycar. Worked great in testing, then I stood on the tube need to get another one
Pegasus
If you do a search on TM using "Blue Leds".. there's heaps of stuff there that you might be able to use Bill.
hazymranch
There is also a source of electrolumiescent lighting called "exelite" that was originally designed by NASA to backlight instrument panels. It comes in a blue light strip does not generate any heat and is water resistant. I checked out their website at http://www.exelite.co.nz and it looks pretty cool. I think you can get them at bike shops because they are advertised as recreational safety gear.
