livingart
so long as tail is not a bacterial infection from a scrape it may be just left to dry out some questions how did it start? was it looking like a graze to start with? any signs of damage at start of die off? skin ring left after shed constricting tail? jn87
It looks like a shedding problem may have started it but can't be certain. There appears to be a little bit of dried blood also. It is black and very dry and shriveled. About an inch of the tail, but looks to be spreading. looks pretty dead. We thought the safest would be for her to drop it, but she wont let it go! livingart
a pic would be good to help get a better idea of it is the doctor in the house?
livingart
but looks to be spreading. you may need antibiotics to stop spread then let rest shrivel completely their tails are designed to break but can be hard to remove from an animal that is used to handling

livingart
the dried section looks similar where that meet the rest of tail is there a redness all the way around tail?
Bobyn
Theres a little bit of red on one side but not the whole way around. You can see the red, very blurry, in the first photo I checked her an hour ago and she was still doing ok. She is still very active and feisty. Just the tail dying and a bit skinny. repto
if it just dries up and diesback like that ,rather than a physical pulloff there maybe a chance it will not regrow?not really up with these but someone like perpin may be helpful? Insect Direct
reminds me of some bearded dragon tails after being bitten by a tank mate. would dry up and eventually drop off.
alanmin4304
My main concern was the potential for an infectin of the blood.
livingart
My main concern was the potential for an infectin of the blood. correct, you need to ensure the infection, or what caused the shrivelling of the tail is stopped
Bobyn
Would an iodine tincture help to stop it or do I still need the tail off?
livingart
you could try that once it stops dying back it will dry up and be easier to get off
Bobyn
Just an update - the geckos tail dried up and fell off by itself! All looks ok, the gecko is still active and happy. Not sure if the part of the tail will regrow or not though. Thanks for everyones advice
