mcmillanm
As above, I feed my community tank flakes in am and an assortment of pellets, tabs for various fish 5 nights a week and bloodworms & spiralina tabs one night. I've been not feeding at all one night as I read it was good for fish (loaches I think) & am wondering if anyone else does and recommends this. Thanks for any any answers/discussions on this. ryanjury
I feed my fish 7 days and nights a week Usually at least 2 but sometimes 3-4 times a day.
rcon021
I feed my fish min 2x a day and feed upto 4/5x a day in the weekend. Before waterchanges I feed them the messy stuff like lettuce, brine shrimp etc. I do stop feeding my fish at times but that's usually for a period of time like 3-5 days. mcmillanm
Hmm maybe I should go back to 7 nights a week then...
ichthus
I only feed mine on the weekdays - not weekends. That's off the recommendation of Paul Talbot at Majestic Aquariums in Sydney. Not sure if the fish would be much better off if I also fed weekends?
smidey
depends on what you are keeping i think. the tangs i keep are mostly algae feeders so i don't usually feed on a sunday & they eat the algae in stead. I generally feed twice a day but occasionally only once when I am not home on time.
mcmillanm
Hi, It's a relatively busy community tank with platies, mollies, loaches, corys, bristle noses, a couple of rams, neons, rummy noses, SAE's & rasboras. I think I read about the idea on the loaches website but I also suspect that in ensuring everyone gets fed that I in fact over feed during the week. I have therefore been not feeding for one night to hopefully rectify this and make my tank situation closer to what would happen in the wild?? Sophia
Bikbok feeds 6 times a week, she gives her fish a fast day. I do it from time to time but not in an organised fashion. Sometimes I feed just a little a couple of nights so they are not getting too much food.
oO SKIPPY Oo
the guppies normally get fed every day and my tank and work also every day (except weekends) but for my other tanks I dont feed them every day - normally once every 2 days
mcrudd
I feed every two days. The communtity tank gets 2 brineshrimp, 1 Jbl nova tab, half an algae wafer and bloodworm leftovers. Puffertank gets half a cube of bloodworms. There is usually some leftover for the nocternal fishies and the morning everything is gone. Caryl
My fish get fed when I think of it - once or twice a week. They are very active and I do not have an algae problem
spoon
the more you feed the more waste , i dont feed that often every few days is enough ,id feed more if i had fish i was trying to grow faster . im slack with waterchanges too so feeding less helps drag them out

s3xtcy
I feed mine 7days a week, sundays normally ends up being mid day when i wake up  lol other than that 7ish am every day. even my BGK - should probably feed him at night but instead I feed in the morning too
aquariumbeginner32
I feed my tropicals in the morning (flakes) and in the evening (bloodworms) every day. My minnows in the smaller tank get the same (coldwater tank) but just in smaller amounts as they don't eat that much. Not sure what I'm doing with the goldfish outside yet as they just don't seem as hungry as they were in the tank inside.... probably once a day is enough for them as they just won't eat it all. Maybe flakes one day then bloodworms the next :dunno:
mcmillanm
Hi, someone else may be able to confirm but I don't think it's healthy to feed blood worms every day. I think it is supposed to be too high in protein and best for the occasional snack. I feed blood worms once a week. (this is just what I've been told though) - can anyone confirm or let me know if this is wrong? Cheers
Caryl
Do not feed worms every day. The fish will decide not to eat anything else and it is more expensive too! I don't think it is good for them either - a bit like feeding your kids McD's ever day.
mcmillanm
Thanks Caryl, That's what I've been told at a couple of fish shops :spop: .
aquariumbeginner32
The only reason I started giving them bloodworms was because they wouldn't eat flakes. I think the pet shop feeds all their fish bloodworms every day so they probably are so used to that, they won't eat the flakes. The do eat flakes now, but they still like the worms more. I thought they were healthy though? My fish are definitely not fat :dunno:

Jaxxnz
My fish get fed when I think of it - once or twice a week. They are very active and I do not have an algae problem Less food less water problem.. :slfg: :slfg: Poor fish Caryl.. thinking of my stomach, if not having any food for 12hrs i would be shaking" would be good if fish are to be feed once a day..
amtiskaw
I feed my community tank every night, a mix of bloodworms and flake food. Occasionally I feed 'em flakes in the morning when I'm dosing ferts. Mind you, my tank's heavily planted and I have lots of filtration
