mcmillanm
Hi, Whenever my corys breed and I collect the eggs into my breeder box they end up going fungusy, even when I put some acriflavine in the water. A couple of 'miracle' babies have survived being eaten by the parents over the last few months but I'm keen to improve the odds:) I gather the problem is not enough air circulating in the breeding box. Combined with the netting I've got over the filter uptake I'm hoping to kill 2 birds with one 'air' stone and get some more oxygen circulating around the tank. I aim to leave the airstone in the main tank except when I need it for the breeding box. My question is what size pump should I use that will work for both the breeding box and main aquarium which is a 66L Jebo? Thanks
Squirt
I think people use meth blue instead of antiflavine.
mcmillanm
Is meth blue safe to use with corys in the tank?
ryanjury
Can you get a splitter and use 2 airstones off your existing air pump?
mcmillanm
Hi, I haven't got an air pump for this tank yet so was wondering if I could buy one that could work for both as I don't always have eggs. Thanks
Joshlikesfish
Can you get a splitter and use 2 airstones off your existing air pump? I'll rephrase what Ryan said You can use a splitter and use two airstones when you get a new air pump Alternatively buy an airpump with two outlets
AquaLife
Yup Met blue instead of acriflavin and it's safe.
mcmillanm
Thanks for that. Just to be clear... I can buy an airpump with two outlets or use a splitter. Does this mean I can use the second outlet or split just when I need it? I've got a 60 something Litre Jebo tank, would the smallest pump be fine? Thanks:)
Artem
For a two outlet pump you will always have two airstones in use. For a single outlet pump with a splitter you can split it when needed. If you get a gang valve then you can easily turn off the second airstone while using a single outlet pump. mcmillanm
Ok, so have finally gotten the air pump and set it up with a gang valve so that I have the main airstone going all the time with the option to turn on a smaller airstone in the breeding box when needed. Now all I need is my corys to breed again... One other thing - if I use meth blue, do I just put a drop in the breeder box as won't it stain the tank otherwise? Thanks
Artem
One other thing - if I use meth blue, do I just put a drop in the breeder box as won't it stain the tank otherwise? Thanks Yes, as long as there are no holes in the breeder box it should be fine. Good luck
mcmillanm
Ok, so corys spawned again this morning after a coolish water change and some glass cleaning. I scraped as many as I could comfortably collect and put in my breeder box with my newly set up air pump and turned it on. Do I go to the LFS and get some meth blue now or use the acriflavine I have left? My breeder box DOES have holes in it for some air flow so will meth blue stain everything for good? Thanks
ryanjury
It probably wont stain anything it will just disipate into the tank and achieve nothing for you.. You might be better off sticking the eggs in an ice cream container or something with no holes if you want to stick meth blue in there. mcmillanm
I knew my corys were looking frisky this morning LOL and now they look like they've swum a marathon (which they probably have) and are mostly sitting very quietly at the bottom of the tank. BTW - I have albino, bronze and sterbais in the tank and suspect that the albinos and bronzes may be doing the deed together. The two babies I have sem a lighter bronze or dk green so far. Would this be because of their age or the combination of the colours? Thanks for any responses.
mcmillanm
Has anyone had any success with just an airstone and no anti fungal stuff? I don't really have room in the tank for an ice-cream container and need the tank's heater. Thanks
Artem
I hatched all of my eggs without any anti-fungal medication, sure some fungused over but I still had more fry than space quite soon! And if its the bronze and albino ones you will definitely run out of space soon :slfg:
