aquariumbeginner32
So I got some replacement cartridges for my filter when I purchased it and they didn't have ones with the exact model I bought on the packet. I asked someone at the counter and he just got the same ones and I asked him if they'd fit and he said they should. Well they don't. So I put them in as far as they would go. The filter takes 4 and I only replaced 2. So next weekend it will be off to Animates again to get something else.
Caryl
Can you cut them to fit or are the solid with plastic edges?
aquariumbeginner32
They are solid plastic edges with white meshy stuff over them... I have a Marina S20 slim filter. They didn't have cartridges esp. for that model there. But am I right in saying that you can fill the filter with stones/gritty stuff (lol) that come in big bags that are the same thing? Not sure what they're called but the guy pointed them out to me when I asked him about it. If I can, then I'll just use those instead. Caryl
The ceramic noodles? Yes they can be used. You may need a bit of filter wool too to clear the larger particles from the water. I have never used that particular filter but have swapped out other filter media for the ceramic noodles in other filters and not had a problem. No it just looked like aquarium gravel but obviously wasn't lol I think it's just carbon.... comes in 1+kg bags.
the-obstacle
You shouldn't need carbon unless you're putting chemicals/medication in your water. I fell for that trap when I first started out too. In your filter put some bio noodles / ehfimax type stuff with some filter wool on top and you're sorted - this will last a long time and you won't have to go to the LFS every month to buy consumables you don't need. aquariumbeginner32
Yeah if Animates won't stock the Marina S20 slim filter ones, then I will do that. I'm not going all the way to Hollywood fish farm just to get them lol Mind you if it's cheaper to do it that way (the way you suggested) then I will do it anyway. Joshlikesfish
Buying media will be cheaper in the long run. Even if you were to buy filter wool its only like $5 a bag as opposed to the $7 odds for the replacement cartridge
aquariumbeginner32
Ok well I will do that then Thanks.

aquariumbeginner32
How old is the filter? ive been going for almost a year now an not had to replace any filter media at all? I've only had it for 3 weeks lol It says on the box to replace 1-2 cartridges every 3-4 weeks from memory. And they were looking pretty brown. burrowssj
I don't know what your filters like but that doesn't sound right to me, I wouldn't replace unless it was falling apart.Someone else can chirp in here?
Joshlikesfish
I wouldn't use them because of the carbon. In terms of them going brown, cleaning them in tank water will help. Will eventually need replacing. But with the carbon, it'll need replacing every six weeks.
aquariumbeginner32
I'll get the ceramic noodles and filter wool then.
