Sunbird73
re: aquaworld - wait a few days to a week, he only had one male in and one (faux??) female. He said he had an order in for the cockatoos and should be in next week. Incidentally our discussion also turned to corydoras adolfoi and he said that tho they weren't on the list this week (had been for the previous two) once they come back on he will get them in for around $25 also. Tho his cory selections seemed to be only in the twos and threes they were reasonably priced. Altho I would quite like to get your opinion ryan on whether his female is male, like I suspect... It is literally just around the corner from me, so I will be keeping my beady little eyes on them - can keep you updated
BURN
Still 2 young for 100% sex. My very limited knowledge is that the females as they get older will not develop long front top fin spikes. Like the males. That is how they were sexed with my last 2 pairs and work out to be correct on that lot.
ryanjury
Best way to sex young cockatoos is to look at the tail.. Males will have square or filaments on the top and bottom edges, females will be rounded, should be pretty evident from 2-3cm long, obviously other things like dorsal fin, anal fin, colour and checks on body help build a bigger picture but it has been the tail fin that I have found is the best and easiest way to tell.. Joe
Wow awesome fish the_obstacle I just wondered, why are the "Gold" ones called "Gold", because I googled "Apistogramma cacatuoides gold" and they look completely different to the imported ones, which look like Orange Flashes.
