Bishop
So I have been noticing lately that there is a weird sort of build up forming on my plants. ( see pics ) It has always been there but not so much to this extent. I had been reading some interesting information about water flow in the aquarium and changed my outlet to a small circular one from the spray bar to increase the water flow. Apart from that noting else has changed. I had wondered if anybody else had seen this before and if it were common? The only thing I can think of would be to add a finer wool to my filter. Also on the subject of filters. My filter pipes are full of gunk and maybe even the build up that is getting caught on the plants. Is this normal. It doesn’t come out ( noticeably ) unless I am restarting the filter. Any advice would be great thanks.
waterlogged
i find i get that when i put new wool in my filter. it always goes away with in a day or so
Bishop
The wool has been in there a fair while, but the fact that you mentioned wool and that I had previously thought that it was the culprit, reasures me that it is. Adrienne
My theory (right or wrong) - there is a lack of water movement in your tank and it is like dust sitting on the plants which ime will turn in to bba
Bishop
Thanks, I had thought I had improved the flow, but this is recent. Maybe a combination of both theorys.
Sophia
you could get a dropper and see if it blows off the leaves, then you know for sure it's crap build up. I used to get it a fair bit on plants in front of the filter but not nearly so much any more.
Joshlikesfish
My friends tank has the exact problem. Lots of poo, sand and not enough flow/mechanical filtration=dirty plants
Bishop
Thanks josh an co. I will attempt a remedy this week sometime and report back
henward
i find that underwater plants form some sort of a layer, i dont think its always originates fromt he plants, could be bio film perhaps, and i think it may be that catching on dirt and particulates. my theory, i seen it before, indeed solved by a few things 1) water movement 2) pleco and BN types of fish
jarrodrussell
i have had that problem to for a while to but its completly 100% gone i just added more botem feeder fish like corydoras and plceos but corys did most of the damage on it plecos just moce it around
Bishop
That is interesting, I only have 2 plecs. It is a 200L so I will look into some more bottom feeders after I check the results of my latest changes.

phoenix44
Just increase the water movement. Cories would be good too as they are always scrounging for food around the tank.
