Vervo
I went to the pet shop pick up some cycle yesterday, I noticed the product that so called waste control. Anyone ever use it? Do I need it? :dunno:
Ira
I went to the pet shop pick up some cycle yesterday, I noticed the product that so called waste control. Anyone ever use it? Do I need it? :dunno: Do you have a horrible case of excess money you desperately need to cure but can't find anything better to treat it than spending it on useless chemicals? If yes, then you need it. Otherwise no.

GZ_Loach
If its a product that clumps together fine particles so your filter can catch them then yes it is a good product to have, but only usefull when you have cloudy water i.e when you first start up the tank. Zayne
do you know the brand of it?
phoenix44
Nutrafin I think.
AquaLife
oh thanks for the info, I've always wonder what is it for.
BigBossPants
Its nutrafin waste control. I used it when I was feeding meaty food to my bullies, it does help keep the sludge down. Unless you have an organic debris buildup you dont need it.
BikBok
is it just a bacteria supplement like TLC ? (which also says will control excess organic sludge)
BigBossPants
Very similar to tlc but targets the sludge more. Also removes smells I think
Vervo
Thanks, my tank is not cloudy, so I won't get it, thanks
Sophia
Again a waste of an opinion  Its not required, is the straight forward answer. Well I laughed at Ira's comment. I may even look this thread up on a rainy day to have another laugh

henward
its when you have a amonia/nitrite spike, you use it it hink. i dont think its needed, a good well cycled filter system will never spike in amonia. overfiltration is good filtratin:D
suphew
Waste control contains Heterotrophic bacteria, similar to the bacteria in Cycle but a couple of stronger more aggressive strains. It's not for combating ammonia and nitrate spikes, or for cloudy tanks, it's job is to break down solid wastes so your filter can process them into nitrates. It's a good product for tanks were you end up with solids on the bottom, big pleco poohs, messy turtles, Goldfish, planted tanks.
henward
i see. is that what grows in the eheim wet dry filters. that filter has no mechanical filtration what so ever. all just bio media. i have no doubt its awesome, but in terms of mechanical filtration... what happens then? suphew
Didn't we already have this discussion in another thread about media order etc in filters? Suggest you google Heterotropic bacteria, there's plenty of information out there.
