antwan
that's really creative, like an indoor waterfall. Would frogs stay if they weren't fenced in somehow? I've got some netting from Spotlight for when I take the lids off/get frogs. nice.. you could grow herbs on there..that whould be cool..your own little herb garden.. There's already some watercress growing Cool idea and looks great, does the light being over the out of tank plants effect the growth of the in tank plants?? Yea I imagine the barclaya won't like it so much but I don't think the hygrophila will be too worried, it'll just grow slower. Once I figure out how I'll raise the light up. antwan
This grass effect is going to be cool Made a budget frame and got the netting up tonight. I originally wasn't going to have the light so high so I don't have enough netting to finish it til the Weekend. Which is also when I'll go for a frog/tadpole hunt. antwan
I enjoy looking at this however not so much this :-? I think seeing the plants is going to be a lot better than seeing the fish jump at a few insects, not to mention the amount of water evaporating from the tank. Oh well, lesson learnt
Zev
Black mesh?
Squirt
A little acrylic window?
GZ_Loach
Clear plastic? All evaporated water will fall back into the tank and you could see better. If you position it right you won't get water forming on the front piece.
antwan
Yea some sort of clear plastic sheet to go across would work well. I have no idea where to get it from or what it would cost though. Do you reckon black mesh would be easier to see through Zev? the holes would have to be small enough so flies stay inside. Squirt
Hmm a sheet of acrylic may cost $80 depends on where you buy,you only need a thin sheet so should be relatively cheap depending on size.
Ismart120
The problem with the thin stuff is that it warps easy under heat, so your lights may be an issue. Go for the acrylic if you can
FraserNZ
Really cool idea! Why not just have another type of Glass inclosure on the top there and do away with the mesh?
antwan
Nah glass is too heavy/expensive and I wouldn't trust it (or my skills) while living in shaky town. It would be awesome though. I have some more updates today. I wasn't very happy with the rearranging of the wood but now it's growing on me. I'm really liking the way the tank looks now. Cleaned all the brown algae off the back and side glass, it's amazing how much of a difference it makes to the tank as a whole. I had the lids off for one night and all the windows were covered in a lot of condensation the next morning so I don't think it's a very good idea to keep it open top. It's a shame but I still like the tank how it is at the moment. Greatest plant ever I'll be interested to see what that stricta looks like when it eventually gets to the surface and starts growing emersed. It's a great plant, hopefully continues to have bushy leafage when emersed.
