Tannin stains?

Can anyone tell me, will tannins in driftwood stain?

I wanted to soak some in the bath tub...

I did though for 2 days and no mark. You could always bleach it out again if necessary.

never stained our bath and I've been doing it for 4 years however you will need to clean the bath out properly afterwards as in use your elbow grease and jiff.

Nah. Go ahead and soak it.

Tannins are what makes tea 'tea coloured'.

Given long enough, a teacup will get stained, but it takes a fair bit of strong tea.

Driftwood is unlikely to release anywhere near that concentration of tannin.

I soaked some for a couple of weeks in the bath. Water went really brown but didn't stain the bath. Needed a good clean though

So the wood was in the bath for four weeks while i was on holiday. It is now all water logged now, the water was quite brown with algae on top.

Some black stuff has leeched out of the wood and has stained some of the rocks and softer pieces of wood a black colour. Is this stuff dangerous? I assume it wont be too much of a problem

I guess it was always going to grow some algae being next to a window

Now to scrub the tub!

I was meaning the black stuff which has leeched out of the wood, it is too dark to be tannins, im thought it might have been some type of impurities the wood picked up while sitting in the stream.
