Joe
what about a school of neon dwarf rainbows they look great as a group? Gouramis don't school. Ther're sort of all over the place, rather than sticking together in a group.

As waterlogged said, they're Neon Dwarf Rainbow fish as opposed to Neon Dwarf Gouramis.
Joe
Oh woops sorry, I misread that piece  Dwarf Neon Rainbows are really cool too, and they will look nice with the Pseudomugil furcartus, so you can get both if you want

the-obstacle
Emerald eyes are pretty cool. My fav would be the mosquito rasboras though. Conchu Blue tetras are really nice, but more expensive. Hey P44 - I thought they were the one for me too but I spotted them in HFF this afternoon and they're nowhere near as colourful / awesome as I remember them looking in photos. Their colour is really subtle which I suspect could be enhanced with the right light (a bit of blue and a bit more red). Do you reckon they colour up as they get bigger / older? phoenix44
Conchu blues colour up a lot in a nice tank with plants. You need a decent number of them though or else they will fin nip

the-obstacle
Well they are brilliant! I LOVE THEM! Dr. Hibbert: Troy McClure? I thought he disappeared after that scandal at the aquarium. Louie: Hey, I thought you said Troy McClure was dead. Tony: No, what I said was: "He sleeps with the fishes". You see… Louie: Uh, Tony, please, no. I just ate a whole plate of dingamagoo…

cliffy
Get some blood fin tetras they really cool and embers.
Jennifer
Hatchets don't school very well unless you have a big group and then they look fantastic. In smaller numbers they tend to pick on each other but they still are very cool. If you are looking for a smaller fish, I would recommend dwarf Tinwini danios. They shoal very well and the males colour up with red fins. I find them much more dynamic than many tetras that are more timid in their schooling behaviour. Unlike many tetras and rasboras Tinwini danios are always at the front of the tank. They are also very active and hardy.
waterlogged
with the danios how do the react with ither fish? i have had little experence with them and have found danios to be more aggressive than tetras. i have gourami and don't want them to have there feelers taken off. Jennifer
The Tinwini are completely and utterly peaceful. No problem at all with them. They even ignore the fry. They really are lovely fish.
Ice222
Not sure about other danios, but Celestial pearl danios are also very peaceful. They love chasing each other, but no nipping and seem to leave all other fish alone. They are with 2 oto cats and a betta, and I've yet to see a single nipped fin in that tank, can't say the same for when I had ember tetras with my betta. Jennifer
I agree, I have CPDs as well but they aren't nearly so outgoing as the Tinwini. The CPDs are more around the bottom of the tank, in and out of plants and hiding a lot whereas the Tinwini are at the middle and always where the action is. Depends on what you want for the tank. the-obstacle
are the tinwini easily available? are they likely to be shop stock in HFF for example? I've found I need to see fish int he flesh to get a real idea of what they're like.
Jennifer
I see them around regularly. Usually they are young when you buy them so you don't really get to see how amazing they are when they develop.
the-obstacle
cool, thanks. I'll go on the hunt.
Ice222
Depends on what you want for the tank. Of course . I haven't seen tinwinis except in HFF so I can't compare, but CPDs are definitely shyer than most. They'd be called timid even when compared with other small, skittish fish. I find their colours, patterns, and gestures pretty mesmerizing though and I personally quite like shy fish. So if you like to be able to see your fish all the time, and don't like playing 'spot the fish' with them, CPDs probably aren't your cup of tea. Mine seemed to have warmed up to me, and will swim up to the front when I go near the tank, so it doesn't worry me that the tank looks bare while they're hiding during the other times. Jennifer
Yeah my CPDs are on my desk so I can spy on them all day. I like watching the males do their little dance.
