What pleco to get?

Tank 240L, since there will be only 1 pleco I want it to be nice.

Also I don't want it getting over 30cm.

Limit is $150.

Chocolate zebras (Hypancistrus sp. L270) and King tigers (Hypancistrus sp. L066) are great looking, omnivores, and only grow to about 15 cm. You should be able to pick up a chocolate zebra and possibly a king tiger for under your budget.

there are many types of royals. they are slow growing and intolerant of others of their species.

I had him (the royal) since May 2007 when he was 11.5 cm. They can grow quick. Hes slowed down but is now 24 cm

The royals on sale here are 8cm-10cm.

Growth rate of 3cm a yr in optimum conditions( so less in a tank your size), it may be a little over 20cm by the time you are 21. But as with Flatfish it will slow down probably before that and while getting to 40cm in the wild it wont get anywhere near that even in a far bigger tank.

Discus are going today which means all my other fish will be up for sale. Probably trademe as there is nothing exciting in there... Which means that I can start looking into getting other fish!

My royal would be 15 years old easy well I have had him for 10 and John had him for a while before that and he would be around 30 cm.

But he is feed heaps and in a 6 ft tank

Great fish and despite spike on plates a gentle giant.

You can pick one up locally for around 125-150 and will last a life time...cheap fish if you ask me

However after seeing some choc zebs on weekend they are nice fish as well and then whilst you have asked about "plecs" there are other cats that can do as well. Some of the rare synos like the angelicus or the old farowella sub group all add substance to a tank

maybe you could look at the hara hara or the bango cats as well
