Caryl
What a neat idea! http://www.woehr.de/en/projekte/budapest_m730/index.htm
smidey
brilliant as long as it's working properly. imagine a system malfunction, your car could be lost for quite a while.
Bilbo
What a great idea but I think the price would be pretty high. The power required to move a car up and down on lifts would be quite a bit.

Ira
What a great idea but I think the price would be pretty high. The power required to move a car up and down on lifts would be quite a bit. Assuming a 25% efficient system the electricity required to lift a car that weighs 1500 kg 30 meters would be about 480 watt hours. Or about 10-15 cents. I'd be surprised if it's that low given that electric motors usually are 90% efficient. I think average parking rates of $5-10/hour would easily cover that. tracytrout
Just what inner city Wellington needs but the council would procrastinate for the next 20years  .
Adrienne
Here in Auckland they have gone to outdoor tiered parking for some of the apartments near the school where I work. Two cars per park (not sure what happens if the driver parked on the top tier wants to get out while the car below is still there though). acara
Great idea, but like all technology,if it goes wrong,it will cause a big problem,eg if a car catches fire, how is it accessed?
