Whats this insect egg pod thing?

There is abig advert in our Saturday paper with a picture similar to yours and a request that anyone finding a pupae, or caterpillar, of these butterflies should report it to biosecurity immediately on 0800 80 99 66

That is for Pieris brassicae the Giant White Cabbage butterfly - the pupa normally has dark spots, as does the caterpillar, but the butterfly looks very similar to the normal cabbage white.

My dageti Killifish are rather partial to them as well - Miss Eight decided to grow some broccoli this year, she would go out every few days and pick the damned things off when holes started appearing on the leaves, so we had quite a few.
