firefish
I got the gravel 6 years ago & had been frustrated that it was always flat and hard to move. Not to meantion the massive amount of trumpet snails all through it! Last weekend I moved into a larger room so while moving my tank I took the oppourtunity to switch the gravel to very fine gravel. Now Edward, my gba, is making massive mountains in the gravel! Before: After: Anyone think that it looks better with a black background? I feel that it make the depth feel shorter... Carlos & Siran
yeah, looks waaay nicer mate, we've had that fruit salady gravel before and never been happy with it either and have switched to darker substrate. The black background and substrate will now bring out the colours of your fish.....
SamH
The depth looks different in the photos due to the angle they're taken on. Having only 10-20mm of substrate at the very front of the glass makes the tank look deeper, keep it flat too. Looks far better than the gravel 8)
firefish
It looks the same angle to me? I can't seem to keep it flat - Edward is having fun now that he can rearrange the substrate  He created an 8cm mountain on the side! Neon
I think it looks deeper without the black background, as you can't quite tell where the tank ends. What's in the net breeder?
Deno
If you don't like the look of the undulated substrate, you could trim across the front of the tank with a nice piece of wood or something. Other than that if you don't want it dug up and moved about you will have to give that fish a stern talking too but he probably won't take much notice. Jennifer
Hmmm, I like to see my fish happy and interacting with their environment. Undulating gravel = happy GBA.
Aquila
Love the new substrate Where did u get it? I think I actually prefer the one without the black background as well...but looks great either way!
firefish
the net breeder has my betta (his tank is being used by my apisto fry) and 2 young lanceolate whiptails that are too small to go into the main tank . I'm perfectly happy to have him messing with the gravel! Flat, like I used to have got boring. I got the gravel from petstuff101 (i think that what they're called) after the move all my tanks will have the same gravel. I think i prefer without the black background. Definatly looks deeper
