Rabbit
L66 are liar tailed http://img513.imageshack.us/i/l66so0.jpg/ L270 tails are like this (pic is of a l333) http://www.aquascapeonline.com/ProdImages/Fish_Plecos/L-333%20King%20Tiger_2.jpg
skippy_49nz
Check the top one again Rabbit. The tail is clamped so its not as easy to see but that is clearly L066 and the lower and closer one is L270. The pics are dark so its hard to pinpoint other distinguishing features. Still, all pics are better than I seem to manage!
Rabbit
Check the top one again Rabbit. Still, all pics are better than I seem to manage! I was answering adodges question on the tails not stating why they are not L66, even though the tail still does not resemble that of L66. This is a picture of L66 http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/image.php?species=hypancistrus+sp(l066)&image_id=2158 note the dorsal, caudle and adipose fins let alone the body shape altogether. phoenix44
her L270s are definitely L270's. but this thread has now got confusing with so many ID's for so many fish. I cannot ID the L226 with that pic. but if mr. pleco says it is, then i would believe it. recent L66- Old L66- L002- I too believe that adodge has an L66 in that pic. its the one on top. without a doubt. rabbit you have to remember that the fish available here may not resemble what is on PC. these fish have been bred by THE best in NZ. skippy_49nz
Phoenix your L002 rocks! Very nice patterning. How many of these do you have? Have you bred them?
phoenix44
just have 2, possibly male and female. prob 6 months+ away from being sexually mature. no more hijacking adodge, I swear.
phoenix44
maybe firenzenz can shed some light on the matter too.
Adrienne
I've decided that in about 6-8 weeks or sooner if I move my fighters out of their tank that I will catch the plecs and remove the 3 chocolate zebs to their own tank - next time I will keep plecs that look similar seperate but at the stage of purchase I hadn't considered I would acquire more However this thread certainly shows how confusing it can be when faced with photos to ID fish
livingart
there is a good chance if they all come from 1 shipment they are all the same type as to what type, who knows
firenzenz
My 2 cents. #1 is panaque sp, so logic would make it "tiger plec ". Head shape is first thing for me that says panaque. As for 'L' number if my memory serves me L226 was the best guest lookalike to that fish so L226 is still not a qualified ID. L270 should be easy to distinguish from L066 just by base colour alone, let alone patterning, and lyre tail of L066. 2 BN and so is #3. Adrienne
Thanks firenzenz - the King Tiger, Tiger and Chocolate Zebs were all bred in NZ, the rest were either imported or sold to LFS
Adrienne
Just want to thank everyone who has contributed to this You will be pleased to know that today I have finally identified my King Tiger in my tank I was really worried that something had happened to him but no, there he was, behind the heater Thanks again
