cessna driver
Hi, I bought some plants in the weekend from the LFS. The tanks they keep the plants in have fish in as well, most of their thank have a large number of small shell fish with a spiral shell about 10mm long and small legs out the front, I have since noticed 1 or 2 of these in my tank after planting, they are about the size of a grain of rice and seem to climb up the glass. Question 1, What could they be, and 2, are they any sort of pest and should I vacuum them up? Cheers

cessna driver
Like this? CLICK ME Looking at the one in my tank, it could well be one of those, it's quite small, most of the ones at the LFS were hard too see properly. will wait and see when it grows, Cheers
phoenix44
yeah.. I don't think you want to wait for them to grow. once they take over your tank, (and they will take over your tank) its pretty hard getting rid of them cause they sit in your substrate! phoenix44
What's wrong with snails P44? :-? there's nothing wrong with them... unless you like me, dislike the fact that they breed too fast, eat up all the algae, poop more than they are worth and eat plants. then the trumpets bury themselves. that and they don't do what they are told. No snail like a dead snail. SamH
I WISH they ate algae, I'm yet to find a creature that actually consumes the stuff! I love my MTS, they're osum 8)
Ira
I don't think I've ever heard a snail called a shell fish before. I was confused as hell, thought maybe you were talking about some kind of shell dweller cichlid, but they don't have legs either...

Stella
a snail, being a mollusc, dwells in a shell. Aquatic molluscs tend to be called shellfish.
