JarrenB
sand from LFS, get a dark sand or gravel as it will make the discuss colours stand out more.
Adrienne
Have you had discus before? I use daltons propagating sand as the base of my planted discus tank and it seems to work well. Too fine a sand will clog the filters as the tank needs to be kept clean with regular water changes and vacuuming stirs up any loose matter on the base of the tank. Heres a pic to give you some idea of what it looks like. The colours of the fish will stand out more depending on what colour plants you put in and the lighting on the tank. If you vacuum it doesn't it suck up the sand as well?
VinsonMassif
Not if you hold the gravel vac on a 45* angle.

Tofigh
Thanks for the feedback from all. Yes I have had discuss but I have had them in a tank without any sand or plans. As this is going to be a display tank I want to have the sand. once the plants have established themselves, how do you clean the tank without disturbing the roots? LYNDYLOO
Adodge: Could you tell me the Name of the Bushy Plant at the Back of your Tank in the Top Picture on the Left hand side. I have been wanting to get hold of this plant for ages.
Caryl
You mean cabomba or ambulia? The two look very similar so either one would give you that bushy look. It is a plant I have never had luck with. Probably due to lack of light in my tank
LYNDYLOO
Thought I would try this in my AR620T, rather a Tall Tank, so nothing seems to be looking right so far. Now I've just got to track some down.
