paul_r
when moing tanks with water in it i found water sloshes around ALOT, not sure but i assume would stress the fish out alot. i placed a towel on top of tank and then lid on top of that if possible, helped reduce some of the water going everywhere
twinkles
yup it sloshes like crazy, probably best to bag all the fish with lots of water, then you can empty the tanks and pour them back in at the other end.

helen2289
make sure you put all the bits in one box. we moved last weekend and went to set up the filter on tuesday night and cant find two bits for the filter! without them we cant set it up (lucky we have a spare tank that the fish are in!) JazzyJeff
Maybe you cld bag the fish and transport in a chilli bin? Definately remove gravel from tank, put in buckets perhaps. No water in the plant bags - it will bruise the plants.
aaron11
i will put water in plant bags i thought i didnt have to take out the gravel as its only up the road im moving 1 mintue in the car

Caper
Why is it bad to move tanks with the gravel in them? Is it because of the weight? Caper
JazzyJeff
Why is it bad to move tanks with the gravel in them? Is it because of the weight? Caper It causes uneven strain on the aquarium structure causing weak spots that may lead to leakage or cracking of glass?
aaron11
Hi ! thanks both tanks had no gravel when I got them I will take it out really it would only take what a mintue? i get a few more buckets possibly a couple with lids Thank god the house is up the road I wanted to give up one of my tanks but i cant !!!! coz then i will be over run with 100s of guppy babies haha Also about the gravel yes the car seat is not even when you look at is it is so that could do it, rather be safe than sorry I think my tanks only have a bucket of gravel in each of them ! Turtle gravel can stay in as its an old tank with the poly under it
LYNDYLOO
I would be removing ALL GRAVEL from ALL Tanks. There would be nothing worse than halfway through a move and you end up with a broken Tank. Be far safer to remove a majority of the gravel and place in buckets. Good Luck with the Move
aaron11
thanks lyndy I will buy a few more buckets today we not moving till another 3 or 4 weeks got tons of bags for the fish also can take a tank at a time before I move Should only take an hour each PLUS all the tanks are under a window so they will be easy to empty once i get the water out for the fish and plants Catching the fish is FUN lol

Caryl
Fish are a lot easier to catch if you remove all the plants, rocks, and decor first then remove most of the water
