wayneh
Hello everyone. I am planning a trip to Thailand and Singapore later in the year, and I am wondering if it might be a good chance to source and bring back some of the harder to find fish, should I be able to find a source (anyone know the best places to go) I plan on getting an import licence before I go. I only need to sort out what to do about quarantine facilities, do I setup something myself or does anyone have one already licensed I could use/hire...??? Not sure if any of this would be worth the hassle, but there is no harm in asking... Your thoughts please. Cheers Wayne
Adrienne
Nice idea but I think you would find the cost of setting up your own quarantine facility huge, unless you have a suitable set up already. I don't know of anyone who has what you require unfortunately. Good luck.
Caryl
Do you know anyone with quarantine facilities? Otherwise it will cost you thousands.
Ira
I think an average quarantine facility costs $20,000-30,000 and a year or two to get through all the paperwork. So good luck.
David R
Probably better to get on the phone to actual quarantine facilities and sort out the costs first, rather than asking a bunch of people who aren't in the industry. Another thing would be to make sure the fish you want to import can legally be brought into NZ, here's the list: http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/imports/ ... ic.all.htm
phoenix44
you should get the food - aquori glo red. its fantastic. hard to source though, i usually have to do a lotta hunting and "palm greasing" to get my hands on it... excellent for discus, and there is a smaller pellet type for the smaller tetras, etc.... diver21
i had looked into importing myself aswell, getting your own licence was horendesly expencive for a one timer. i got hold of maf i think it was and they gave me a list of every business that had an importing licence including their phone numbers. after a bit of digging around i had found acouple of people who where willing to rent out their quaranteen facility to me and advised that i needed to import heaps of fish to make it worth while and sell the others to recover the cost, something like a couple of thousand fish. im just trying to look through my emails for the list now if you would like me to farward it to you if i find it.
