enzoom1
I've heard what I thought was my chain loaches make a clicking noise when they have started to eat their food quite a few times before. But the other day I remembered to listen carefully for them so I dropped a spirulina tablet in for them and as soon as they started to nibble on the tablet I heard the same clicking noise again. Has anybody heard that aswell and do you know how they make the noise?

Southerrrngirrl
My Zebra Loaches do it too. Apparently its quite normal. No idea how they do it either. I did google but came up with nothing. I did however find out that they click because they are content. So I guess thats a good thing. supasi
There has been several posts regarding loaches clicking where people have thought that their tank had cracked. I think the noise is made via a bony plate behind the mouth. Loaches naturally live in murky and silty bottomed environment. it helps them find each other. A-town...
I had one clown loach which would make clicking noises in early hours of the morning. he would also sit at the front of the tank doing it so I woul feed him then he would stop......for a while
Whiskas
I had a goldfish who would do this - his was a bit more like rasping. I first noticed him doing it when i put him in a hospital tank after some BAD food killed off all his pond mates! Took me a while to realise it was actually the fish making the noise! Funny lil blighter he was, had nine lives - which finally ran out this year

David R
Mystic is onto it, and they also do it when battling for dominance, along with "greying out".
