Captain Conkout
My local petshop gets frogs in for around $15 each. I remember catching them about 20 years ago and loath to pay the shop for something I enjoyed doing I went a-catching last week... Unfortunately, after 20 years of abandonment my spot has not become overgrown with gorse and the swamp itself is just a mess of leafy weed. There is water but it isn't the murky frog-loving place I remember. So can anyone share places they have seen frogs in any abundance recently. I know frog spots are best kept secret so just send me a msg if you like and I'll keep your spot on the low-low and not over exploit it! I had a look in a few culverts and stock pools on the way down from New Plymouth this weekend and found places rife with dragonfly, guppies and waternymph but no sign of tadpoles or frogs... I have wheels and this Thursday off so if anyone knows of a spot anywhere from Wairarapa-Wellington-Otaki let me know. No 4WD so nothing stupidly remote...! I used to have the big green bell frogs and I think they are the only types we get here in Wellington.

museeumchick
Snake kid strictly speaking you arent allowed to collect stuff from the wild to sell without permits n stuff (correct me if i'm wrong people) so while this sounds like not a big deal, i wouldnt widely advertise the fact just a thought
Stella
I think it is actually ok with exotics like that.... not sure though. (and it is Deoxyribonucleic...)
snake kid
dont worry you can take non natives from the wild with out a liscence but you have to be careful that your taking what you think you are taking.
Stella
There is almost no hope of ever accidentally running across a native frog, certainly not when looking for exotic frogs. Natives have very little to do with water, they live in wet bush.
museeumchick
you can take some native animals too (not frogs obviously, but other not protected things), the issues is usually with selling things. Just a thought
Insect Direct
if i was to post the locations of known frog populations (exotics) sadly i dont think theyd be there that long or atleast the majority of the tadpoles if you want a frog or 2 as a pet i think supporting a petshops a good idea - want to make an earn out of frogs...... bred them
broms2
I agree Mince, I have seen heaps of adults for sale on TM lately, I think it is wrong taking anything from the wild and keeping it let alone selling it for profit!
Tsarmina
i don't know where to find them, but you can get whistling browns in wainui. my cat brought one home for me a few years ago, i saved it and put it in a tank. we had him for about a year before he died.
