Afrikan
There could well be issues, and when Oscars fight they mean business, and they are in my opinion like dogs with a bone when it comes to having a snitch   You will need to upgrade the size of your tank eventually also. Deno
I have a breeding pair in a 5 foot tank, their previous owners had them breeding in a 4 footer. But these 2 love each other. I don't know how a couple of strangers would go. I think a bigger tank would be the go.
David R
Could be asking for trouble with that big a size difference. Then again it may be fine as the bigger one won't see them as a threat. Give it a go but be ready to separate them. *edit* and yeah, that is a short-term arrangement, tank is too small for more than one oscar. Afrikan
Our breeding pair that we had bred in a 4ft long tank, however the width and height of the tank were more than ample.
fulloc
i might just stick with the one oscar, he is huge and i have 2x plecs and a ghost knife (all 20cm+) and want them to have plenty of space. do you think a pair of severums or a JD might keep him company? Afrikan
Personally I don't think your tank dimensions are big enough to house anything more, may pay to upgrade size of tank if you are wanting to get more fish. Do you mean a pair of JD as in male/female? All hell could break loose if they eventually pair up.

Yeah, you could keep most things in a 4' tank, a group of silver aro's would go nicely in a 4' long tank, if it was 8' wide...

fulloc
haha. ive had plenty of fish so know what im doin just never had such a big oscar before. im not intereted in a JD anymore, was just an idea. i had a look in a few shops today when i wen to auckland to get my oscar and think i may just get an eel of some sort or a smallish jag. he was in with 4 or 5 smaller fish in his old home. i want him to be comfortable but im not interested in getting a new tank as mine was built for me by my father, i will just keep it minimally stocked, he has plenty of room to turn etc at the moment and my research tells me he wont get too much bigger. if he does il let him move on to a better home. isnt he cute

Lucid
A JD would be a good friend for it, and the Oscar will eat your snail. Dont get Eels\Bichir, will suck it up as food.
new zealand discus man
Hi Better protect that heater..They can break them real quick..Problem is with most biggggggggish fish is that ofen you have two males...They can kill each other...If pair then fighting is completely diffent and rare to got to far...Phill

jim r
I have a pair of oscars and they are not messy at all. However I only keep a shallow covering of gravel.
