Aiptasia

I have been using "Salifert Aiptasia Exit" recently and just wanted to say, IMHO this stuff is CRAP. Salifert seem to make very good test kits, but when it comes to killing Aiptasia, I think this stuff feeds them rather than kills them. After no success, I tried moving a rock with 2 aiptasia out of the main tank and into a small bowl of seawater. Then, waited for the little buggers to rear their ugly heads and injected with Aiptasia exit. Tried again with 4 times the recommended dose (as a test) and they still live. Hmmm, maybe HFF swapped the contents with amino acids?! :D

It seems the general concensus for the best way of removal is either Joes Juice or Kalk-paste. Might try a bitta Joes Juice tomorrow.

Salifert made a crap product? Say its not so...

Kalk works fine.

As an interesting note, I had a few Aipstasia when I moved the tank, hiding in places i couldn't see etc. When I moved I could see them in my tank. I introduced 1x boxing shrimp, 1x comb mouth tang, 1x chromas. Since their introduction I have no aipstasia, none.

Also a friend here in wellington has something in his tank that eats Aipstasia. The only fish/inverts we have in common are boxing shrimp and chromas and a Mandarin.

I duduce its the chrmas. Ok, i'm kidding its the boxing shrimp. What else could it be?

Anyone else heard of boxing shrimp eating aipstasia?

It should be noted that I hardly feed my fish, 2x a week at the most, sometimes as long as 7 days between feeding so they are hungry little blighters.

It should be noted that:

Aiptasia Eating Shrimp: Peppermint Shrimp are by far the top choice of aquarists for eating aiptasia anemones, but the trick with this one is making sure you get the RIGHT species of shrimp. Even though the Camelback Shrimp (Rhynchocienetes uritai) and the Peppermint Shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni) are very similar in appearance, they are NOT the same. It is important that you learn how to properly identify these two species, because the Camelback is often misidentified or misrepresented and sold as a Peppermint. The TRUE Peppermint Shrimp is the L. wurdemanni species. This one is the real aiptasia eater, which is also considered by most aquarists to be reef safe, whereas the R. uritai is less likely to eat aiptasia or be trusted in a reef tank

Not with Joe's Juice they aint tricky! Must admit I had my reservations prior to buying this stuff after such shit results with Saliferts version. I wanted something that was made specifically to kill the bastards all in one nice little package (with syringe etc). Now that I've bought it it's the best $30 odd bucks I've spent. You only need to use such a small amount, it's easy to apply and it WORKS quickly and effectively!

Yah for Joe's Juice - 10/10

Boo for Salifert Aiptasia Exit - 1/10 for effort,... 0/10 for results

now to contact Joe and get remunerated for a bitta marketing... :)
