bummer for the fish

LOL zebra plec's a "serious environmental thread". Nice one bureaucrats...

Yeah I realised thats what they were when i saw the pic's.. And I thought who would kill 13 of them? Surely they're allowed in Aus and you could have found someone to qtine them at the drop of a hat..

Unbelievable that they would destroy such and endangered species, that's simply horrible!! I'm sure they could have taken them to an aquarium for proper care and handling.

man tht sucks hardout!

Surely they're allowed in Aus and you could have found someone to qtine them at the drop of a hat..

I wouldn't count on it, AFAIK they're even more restrictive than us with what can be imported. But they actually have a reason for it, as in many parts of the country its warm enough for them to survive outside all year and could easily become established in the wild (unlike most tropical species in NZ...)

Chances are that they are captive bred coming presumably from Asia.

Zebs, Royals and pseudancistrus sp.

The story goes that some of the Zebs originally here were smuggled into Aus earlier in the decade, because of the demand. As With David R , these guys while unlikely could survive up Northern states.

AUZ only allow one pleco on the whole list. They just simply dont want them.

Yeah, I was talking to some fish keepers when I was over last, and they were amazed that we give away BN because they are so common
