Fresh water shrimps

bedazzled

Recommended Posts

I have noticed while I have been perving at pics online of tanks overseas that quite a few of them have shrimps in them.

Do we get fresh water shrimps in waterways here? I think we do...

Would they be able to be acclimatised to a tropical set up or would it be too warm?

Thanks :D

the truth is, if you do catch some of the new zealand freshwater shrimp and try to acclimatise them to a tropical water climate they will likely die way earlier than they would if you just kept them in a coldwater tank.

my advice would be to just keep them in a coldwater tank, but what the heck, you could give acclimatising them a go :)

had some in my tanks for almost 2 years now

originally used for feeders

some have survived

also feeding live mysis but they don't seem to last long :D

Did you have trouble acclimatising them or just dump them in since they were meant to be feeders?

i always acclimatise the feeder fish :o

no, they were dropped straight in

if you want them to survive well i would recommend what has been said in this thread as to warming them up

they eat a little flake, but in the wild they are detritus feeders

ie: they are good for cleaning up leftover bits even fish excreta
