I have been out of fresh water tanks for a little while and are now re looking into having a tank again.....

Just wondering what kind of lighting i need to successfully grow plants in a 800 deep tank...

i was thinking just a 150 halide and 2 fluros..

also do you have them on timers like a marine tank so the fluros do so many hours and the halides to lesser hours??

i have had quite a success keeping fancy plecos in the past with plants.

What i have foound is that the plants must be left for a while before the plecos get in so they set up root systems and get used to the tank andstart growing etc. and yes you do need c02 to really get them pumped :D

Sorry hans i didn't say before but the tank is only 400deep and 700wide... its going to fit into an alcove in our new house...

Just thinking about it one fluro and a 150 halide should be fine..

I know moon lights are mainly marine but does anyone use them on tropical - to get plecos out at night maybe??
