dwalk
Having had several of there heaters fail in the last year, I thought I'd ask if other users have had the same problem. I have been fish keeping for only a year, and all have been bought new. My first tank was my 130l Community tank. This was set up with a Fluval 205 and Jager heater, neither of which have caused me any problems. The 2nd tank was a 40l tank, for breeding ( Siamese fighters ) The heater was a 55w Aqua one heater. After approx 5 months, it stuck on, so swapped it for another 55watt Aqua one. The 2nd one failed after approx 2 months, at which point I replaced it with a 50w Jager, no further Issues. The 3rd and 4th Failures happened this weekend on my 165l tank. I got home Sat afternoon, and water temp was 21 Degrees. On checking the heater It was deadl, and looks burnt out. Putting my 200w backup heater and setting ti up, I finally discovered that it would only maintain the water to a max of 23 Deg, with it turned right up to max 32! All fish are now in other tanks, (1 now seriously overstocked) and I've ordered a 200w Juwel heater. has anyone else had a similar experience, or is this just a run of bad luck? Freakyfish
Id say a run of bad luck or a bad batch of em Jager are the best for a reason thogh I sell hundreds of AquaOne in various sizes and can only remember a handful coming back in the last 4 years Brad

Aquarium Dude
I have had 3 elite heaters, never had a problem with falure but the seals did come off, they sort of worked there way down the glass. I took them back and got replacements which are fine.
tHEcONCH
I've had two Aqua one heaters - both failed after three months. I now use Jaeger exclusively.
AMAZONIAN
Hi All Even though I have a very well insulated fish room I still have a small heater in every tank with the exception of WCMM, Killies and Leopards. They are ALL Aqua One and I have never had one fail yet. Ive dropped one and it broke the tube, but I replaced that and it still goes very well. The only problem I have with the Aqua One is when they are new. The Silicon Rubber they use to make them is a "Bacteria Food" and they grow a slime over them which I found suffocated the fry by covering their gills and killed them. I dont use new Aqua Ones near Fry any longer but place the new heater in an established tank to age the Rubber. The slime is extremely apparent on the suction cups and the top of the heater. SpidersWeb
I've had Jebo, AquaClear and Masterpet heaters fail. AquaOne's (even ones I got 2nd hand) have never given me trouble, and oddly the only heaters I own that haven't built up water on the inside (moisture + bi-metal thermostat = bad). Elite is another brand I've had good success with. Never tried Fluval or Jager, as I haven't been able to validate the extra cost as my AquaOne's just dont fail. But it is certainly worth the price difference when comparing the awful Masterpets and the AquaOne models!
Cheesejawa
The Silicon Rubber they use to make them is a "Bacteria Food" and they grow a slime over them which I found suffocated the fry by covering their gills and killed them. I always wondered why that happened.
David R
I haven't had any problems with the aquaone heaters either, I've got a really old one that the thermostat has broken on, but you can't expect them to go forever I guess. Its still good for bringing the tank back up to temp after a water change.
