  1. Cheers Henward, the tank is over filtered with a fluval 205 on a 160L tank, but i will also be careful how much i'll feed at once. I'll give the "frozen fish dinner" a go, and see if he(she?) eats it. Thanks
  2. My LHS in levin doesn't have the frozen heart mince i used to feed my Black Ghost Knife. He stocks this frozen food called frozen fish dinner. Would this be a suitable substitute? I accidentally left the good stuff out overnight, and my cats ate it ! I can't get to palmy for a few weeks, so i need a substitute for my BGK asap! Would fresh ox heart at the supermarket be fine, stripped of any fat? All help appreciated, many thanks 8)
  3. I'm a bit cautious still, it is my wifes tank, and if any fish get lost, my name would be mud .
  4. I wasn't sure whether to post this here, or under technical, but here goes anyway, In my wifes 100l bumble bee goby tank we have replaced the internal eheim 2008? with a JBL 120 canister filter. i have both running in the tank now, when would it be safe for me to remove the internal filter. The external filter hadn't been in use for about a year, and i added some new ceramic noodles into it. I was thinking of 2 weeks, would that be long enough?
  5. Thats it, i must be blind to not have seen it, thanks zev
  6. Same here, i carefully modified my AR850 tank and put a fluval 205 external filter in. Silent and efficient filtration. I put some photos on this forum somewhere on what mods i did to the tank, can't find them though
  7. there are now photos on this page, not just a link offsite
  8. My new impellor arrived in LHS last week, and my noisy filter problem is solved, no more noise, and better water throughput too. Not cheap at $38 for 1 impellor though
  9. Phoenix, GBA for E. Yellow, sounds good, send me a PM, I might come through to PN this weekend dwalk,
  10. Just added the rest of the photos, they are in the order that the photos were taken. Phoenix, Swap BGK for E. yellow?, nah, might consider a bird, one called Rusty!
  11. The male is now in the cave, fanning the eggs with his fins. Below is a link to my photobucket album, where i have put some more photos of my 2 gba in the act.... http://s292.photobucket.com/albums/mm39/dwalkfish/GBA%20Breeding%202%20in%20cave/ Unfortunately, this tank holds my new BGK! This weeks job was to move the breeding GBA trio out...
  12. I think the marbled hatchets will be a good fish for the top, so long as they aren't live food for the GBK. Other suggestions, anyone, for suitable fish for the mid level of the tank? Thanks all, dwalk
  13. Any idea on how fast that they grow??? Excuse all the noob questions, i just want to look after him (her?) well. Any suggestions on what mid to surface level fish are suitable, I'm aiming for an exotic style tank, as opposed to a general community tank. Pearl gourami and the 2 bloodfin tetra will be moved soon. thanks, David
  14. Would the Zebra loaches be ok in there with him long term? I take it i should move my younger and breeding GBA? Another bigger tank is ready and waiting, or i buy a nice 300L or so tank.
  15. No worries Phoenix, I trust your advice a lot more than most LFS staff.
  16. says the man who sold the fish.... Nice fish BTW... Just need the Chocolate talking catfish etc to go with it. But once i move the Gourami, what fish do I put in for mid to upper level? there will be more plants and space soon, I will move the big pumice rock with caves into my 250L tank.
  17. I've just bought a GBK, about 5" from LFS. I've put him into my 160L community tank, which has GBA, Zebra loaches,, 2 pearl gourami and 2 bronze cory's in it. It has about 10 plants, and many nooks, crannies and tube shaped caves in it. My loaches aren't small, there mature adults, about 3-4" long. There seems to be a bit of a battle going on between the BGK and the loaches, do i need to be worried? I, and knowledgeable LHS worker, thought they would be fine, and suggestions?
  18. All the air is definately out. I'll grab a new impellor when i can find a local stockist. David
  19. I'll try lying it on the side for a while, and see if that fixes the noise. after that I think i'll replace the impellor. The shaft is Ceramic, so i don't think that will be causing any problems. I had problems with my inlet tap leaking a few weeks ago. A small but constant drip had started. Looking inside the tap fitting, i oticed that there wasn't ANY washer at all, so a simple, small tap washer later and the leak was fixed. Another option was to fix an o-ring of an appropriate size, but i didn;t have any on hand.
  20. Recently my canister filter has started to be noisy, not long after it had been cleaner. So i took it apart again, cleaned it even more thoroughly, especially around the impellor, and cleaned the hoses out as well. It is still noisy, quite different to the quiet filter i have had for the last 18 months or so. Any suggestions on what else i could try? Should i consider replacing the impellor? Thanks, David
  21. I've decided to sell my Lithobaite Trio, I don't have the time to breed them. Now i need some ideas for my tank. 200l, overfiltered, with 7 Elec yellow and 8 Demasoni. I'm looking for a fish that doesn;t get too big, and won't be too aggressive. Suggestions anyone? plus a source for your suggestions in the lower nth island would be good too.

    Juwel Heaters

I had a 200w Juwel heater in a 160 l tank. After observing wild temp fluctuations, I swapped it out for a 150w jager, no more fluctuations. I suspect that the Juwel heaters aren't comparable watt for watt to others, due to there extremely compact dimensions. The 200w Juwel is about 15cm shorter than my 150watt jager! Hope this helps.
  23. I'm with Jolliolli, I've got an AquaOne AR 850, and the filter was noisy and didn't give the water a polished look. Now i've converted the tank to run with an external fluval filter. Go for the Juwel, I don't think you'll regret it.
  24. Hoody, I bought my 2224 on special from Animates for $199. If you ask nicely they might do this price again.
