yarimochi
What is the Temperature Tolerance of freshwater crays?? I was just thinking that 5 bigs ones would look awesome in my big tank. Its probably a stupid idea but I'd thought I'd ask anyway becuase I see big freshwater crays in tropical tanks overseas and was wondering if we could use our native ones? tHEcONCH
They cook best in boiling water.
Naz_Nomad
Surely natives would be considered cold water? So up to 22ish would be best for them.
snookie
5 would probably fight
MarkLB
Native freshwater crays are definately cold water. They are very unhappy in anything over 20 C. I had one and during a three day hot spell the tank was at 25 C by the time I got home from work each day. I did 30 % waterchanges each day to reduce the temp but it didn't help the Koura. Sadly she died and I've vowed to never keep another native until I have a chiller for the tank.
livingart
100 degrees for 2 to 3 mins then dunk in cold water:D seriously though get a chiller if you want to keep over summer 5 will probably fight like has been said
Heir
don't put big ones in a planted tank or with fish, they're quite grumpy when they get big and love gardening.
yarimochi
I was talking about them in a tropical tank for those who didnt get that. I already have 8 in my native tank. I think its now obvious that it would be a stupid idea but it was worth asking anyway! Thanks
Stella
Hi Yarimochi, Cool, another native fish person! I may be about to embarrass myself, but I don't recall having run into you before in the various natives threads... What else do you have in your native tank?
