michael.qian
Here's the problem with me, when I buy something, I always have to go for the best brand. So, with the second hand Eheim 2224 I bought not working out, I was going to buy a new AquaOne CF1200 for $130. But... I saw this Eheim Ecco 2233 filter on Trademe. For $120, second hand. I couldn't find this filter on Eheim website, there is only 2232, 2234 and 2236. So if this one turns out to be one of those, is it worth buying over a new CF1200? Provided it comes with everything and is in good working order. Also what makes the ECCO different from the other Proffessionel series? Cheers
SpidersWeb
I'd rather buy a brand new AquaOne CF1200. Holds more, over twice the water flow, comes with new pipes so you can set everything up just how you like it. Buying the 'best brand' generally means paying the highest price. At $130 you really just want value for money I'm affraid. CF1200 has nothing but praises (so far I've seen) on these forums. (Edit - except for that tap seal issue, which I'm told has been resolved now) The Eheim does have the self-priming head, but you should only need to prime an external once, and I think the CF1200 has a control to help prime anyway. I've got a Jebo 819 which is fantastic but there are no extra features. It just silently does its job. ECCO's are designed to be more efficent, compact and convinent to use. Professionals are more aimed at getting the best water quality.
michael.qian
Thanks for the reply. A noticable advantage for the Eheim is that it is only 5W, while the AquaOne uses 22W. But put this aside, you reckon it's better value to get the new CF1200 for $130. I would go for the one that gives me the best water quality, so in this case the CF1200? davidb
IMO yes
SpidersWeb
In my personal opinnion yes I'd go the CF1200. The ECCO will be more energy efficent, but the CF1200 will flow more. If it's not an urgent decision, might want to wait for some other opinnions too
ryanjury
The ECCO probably uses less power because its smaller and flows less water.. You cant beat a new one with a 1 year guarantee etc, and if it is broken you can just take it back get a new one not like off trademe! Hoody
I hav'nt had any prob's with my cf1000. plus when buying brand new you'll have a warrenty
michael.qian
The new CF1200 is off trademe as well, in Hollywood fish farm it sells for $160 I think. If the CF1200 will give better water quality, that's the one I'm going for. Not really urgent, but like to buy one soon, maybe in the next few days. ryanjury
Yeah but im sure that the person on trademe is a shop and if it is broken you will have more luck getting a new one off them than a random who only has one..
michael.qian
Sweet, CF1200 it is then. You'll know which auction it is probably, the only in Auckland, $130, new. I asked if it came with all the pipes or not, but probably a stupid question if it's new it has to come with pipes I assume, seller hasn't replied yet though. ryanjury
yeah I think there are a few shops that sell them cheap on there if its brand new it will be complete unopened in box with all pipes and I think they come with media too mine did.. Ira
You do realize that "Noticable" power difference will be about $2/month in electricity, right? Would you notice that?
michael.qian
Yeah I know it will only be about $2 difference, which doesn't really matter at all. I'll hopefully get it by Tuesday. How many weeks should I keep them both running before taking my internal Eheim 2010 out? When I do take the internal filter out I might get a mini-cycle correct? peanuts
the eco filters are great - we have a 2234 running and its wonderful - primes easily and easy to maintain - BUT it only pumps 500 litres an hour the 2233 pumps around 400 - 450litres an hour. we also have a CF1200 and it also isn't a problem to maintain. it also pumps 1200 litres an hour. so value for money is the CF1200. jim r
I have an eheim 2231 and an eheim 2233, I am totally unimpressed with them both and in my opinion they are not in the same league as fluval ,however if you are interested I will sell you the pair for a combined price of $150 and they are less than 3 months old. michael.qian
Hi Jim R. thanks for the offer it sounds tempting but I think I'll pass. The flowrate on them is a bit low I think, just found out about the flowrates, I thought if I bought them from you I could try to run them together but there isn't enough room in the cabinet beneath the tanks. thanks again for the offer though, you could sell them seperately and you'll get more money anyway I'm sure. michael.qian
YAY Won a $1 reserve auction for a new Fluval 405, from the same seller as the CF1200, for $142. That's a good bargain I reckon.
Bastables
Eheim eccos are a budget branding. They're actully MP filters rebadged as Eheim (MP are the aquariam company that Eheim owns). Pretty much they're a waste of time inso much as you are not buying a filter actully degined/manufactured by eheim.
michael.qian
Won't be a ECCO anymore. Hopefully this Fluval 405 isn't a overkill for a tank my size, 135L, pumps 1300LPH.
Ira
That's about the right level of kill, not over.
